Our Windows domain ends in .local and visitping.local doesn't work. How do we fix it?

Updated October 29, 2026 · VisitPing 3.3.2

Windows sends every name ending in .local to the domain's DNS, so it never finds visitping.local. Use your office address (like brookside.visitping.app) instead, or add the name to the domain's DNS.

  • Office address: sign in on the server as a domain admin and run Fix office name.bat as administrator. It adds the address to the domain's DNS. Run it again if the server's IP changes.
  • visitping.local: in Windows DNS, add a zone named visitping.local with a blank A record pointing to the VisitPing server's IP.

Some routers and filters block names that point inside the office ("DNS rebinding protection"). Ask whoever manages it to allow visitping.app.
